Eleven Rose Petals Fall - [Voice | Video]

[As the journal's video clicks on - activated by being bumped from Dist's bookcase onto the floor - it shows most of the man's desk and workspace. ...To say the area looks like bomb went off may be a bit of an understatement as well as a half truth. Papers, notes, sketches, and various metal and electronic parts are skewed all over the large piece of furniture. The lamp was still on, and a pile of books were open, marked with numerous slips of paper, all of which also containing notes and scribbles. Ah, the workspace of a true genius.

Dist, meanwhile, was tugging books off his shelf, looking at the titles and flipping through pages. He mutters a few "yes" and "that could be useful"s here and there, absently pushing up his glasses. Dist then begins to walk back over toward his desk...

...before he very nearly trips over his own journal. So graceful, this rose.

Uttering a sharp curse, he glances down at the object angrily and blinks. Oh, that's where it went to. Picking up the journal, he finally makes it back to his desk and seats himself. He looks over something in a book before he speaks indirectly to his journal.]

Winry, I may need to borrow your workshop later, if you don't mind. I want to add a few finishing touches to something I've been working on, and begin preparations for another project.

Oh, yes...Guy? I'd like to speak with you about that, actually.

[And, just as he's about to ignore his journal until one of the two speaks up, Dist remembers something. He lifts his head from his work and turns toward the journal's camera.]

And before I forget once again...I spoke with someone about piano lessons some time ago. I'm uncertain if the one I spoke to is still here or has been returned, but if anyone else here in Luceti is gifted in that aspect, please contact me. I'd like to make time to learn.

[As Dist explains, Guy flips through the notes, only half-reading so he can listen to what Dist is telling him. Man, taking down such detailed information in the middle of a battlefield? Dist definitely deserves the title of "God General" after all, brilliance with fonic technology aside.]

I think Edward down at the smithy could provide the metalwork we'd need, so long as we're detailed enough on the specs. Unfortunately,

[Guy glances up and gives Dist a sheepish grin,] I'm not very useful on the fonic front. My fonic theory is definitely lacking. I still haven't figured out how fonic artes and the fontech we have is operating, because as far as I can tell there aren't any fonons here.

[And yet, Asch and Luke can hyperresonate. It doesn't make any sense.]

[The research was actually written out once everyone was returned to their rooms (and should have been sleeping, but he memorized the details and circuitry while on the battlefield, yes, with his fonbot to back him up of course.

Dist pursed his lips, removing his glasses to rub between his eyes. He grumbled something along the lines of "If only Jade were here" but sighed and pressed onward.]

I've run into that problem, actually, with a different project I've almost completed. I tried to complete it prior to our meeting, but was unsuccessful.

...However, as a fonic researcher, I've experimented and do know there are indeed fonons available here in Luceti. How and why they are here, I'm uncertain, and there are so few of them I've sometimes had to engineer various devices to rep--...create new fonons as well as amplify the existing ones, but they are here. I only wanted to make absolutely certain this idea wasn't as insane and impossible as half of me thinks it is before I begin working on anything.

[Hey, "replicate" isn't Guy's buzzword you know. You can say it.]

I'll concede to you on that point then; I'd have no way of knowing. [Mostly he just assumed.]

What's this different project you were working on?

[Dist nods, noting Guy didn't necessarily react to his little slip. He had thought that would would have been taboo with any of Jade's little group, in relation to himself. He wasn't sure how to proceed, but after a beat, he just presses on.]

If you need any assistance, I can teach you, or instruct you to the best of my ability. Though, until I determine if this could work or not, I have to concede defeat...for now. [The last two words were heavily stressed. Dist's not one to give up easily, especially in a field he excelled in. He'll get past this, one way or another.]

As for my other project...it's a fontech pistol, to protect myself. It's frame and body is complete, but it can't fire, just yet. Not effectively, at least.

Oh...yeah, I guess without any of the Kaisers...

[Dist would probably have a hard time in a fight.

...especially since his fonic artes are pathetic. 8|]

Well, if I can help with that at all let me know, okay?

[ARE YOU REALLY STILL HUNG UP ON THAT? 8|

Dist makes a kind of have frown at the mention of his fonbots. His fonbots. He'd finally gotten to work on his best model during the draft after months of not seeing and touching anything remotely as wonderful as them. It was glorious. Then he had to leave.]

Believe me, if I could, I would have rebuilt the latest model already. But yes, marvelous. You're really the only one I can count one with even a speck of knowledge in the field of fonon technology, though I may ask someone else for some aid as well.

[Winry's talent may prove useful as well.] If Anything comes up, I'll contact you, but I'd like this to stay somewhat private.

You're counting on me?!

I'm counting on you not to ruin anything! Now, if we're finished, I have to meet someone else for something I've been putting off. My time is rather limited, in fact.

[He stands, straightening up.] I do hope you won't repeat any of this to anyone...

[identity profile] count-gardios.livejournal.com 2011-01-31 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Not a word.

[Unless he figures out Dist's doing something that could be construed as unethical or dangerous to other people. Then he'll repeat it to as many people as he needs to.

Guy stands as well to escort Dist to the door.]

Thanks for coming by, and I'll make sure to talk to Edward about doing some metalwork for us.

That's quite useful, thank you, Guy. For your assistance as well.

[It's a shame he couldn't actually get anything started on the project today, but he was pretty busy with things. Hopefully the piano lesson he'd be going to would at least help to calm his nerves a little bit over the problem with fonons.]

I'll speak with you again, when I get some plans drawn out and properly formulated. Until then, good day.

Yup! Take care, Dist.

[Guy stands at the door to wave cheerfully at Dist as he heads on his way. Once he's out of sight Guy ducks back inside to ponder quite thoughtfully about all of this.]
